Become a ‘You’re the Chef’ leader!
What is ‘You’re the Chef’?
‘You’re the Chef’ (YTC) is a cooking program designed to develop the skills and confidence that a person needs to prepare healthy and tasty recipes safely. The program is based on a train-the-trainer model. This means that we give interested leaders like you all of the information and tools needed to then run your own cooking program back at your agency or with your community group. Registered Dietitians from Southwestern Public Health are currently recruiting community volunteers from schools and interested agencies to teach children, youth and adults to get excited about cooking.
During a 4-hour training session, leaders will:
- Gain a greater understanding of how to teach others to be food safe;
- Increase their nutrition-related knowledge and skills;
- Learn great food budgeting tricks;
- Learn how to plan and implement engaging cooking sessions that will appeal to others through hands-on cooking and tasting.
- Receive access to a training manual containing instructions and forms needed to run your own program;
- Receive a certificate of completion;
- Have fun!
YTC can run in schools or community agencies, and can be customized to suit the needs of your participants and your host school or agency.
Aspiring chefs, health care professionals, student leaders, volunteer agencies, or community members are all welcome to take the training!

Training is free.
Trained leaders will need to cover the cost of leading their own school or community programs.
