Board of Health Appointment Opportunity

Southwestern Public Health Seeking Expressions of Interest for Order in Council Provincial Appointments
Southwestern Public Health seeks Provincial Appointees to serve on our Board of Health. In Ontario, each health unit is governed by a board of health that is accountable for implementing the protocols and guidelines referenced in the Ontario Public Health Standards. Public Health works in the areas of protection, prevention, and promotion with a goal of healthy people in vibrant communities. We serve a population of approximately 210,000 across Oxford County, Elgin County, and the City of St. Thomas. Currently, our monthly Board meetings are held virtually. However, they will resume in person, alternating between Woodstock and St. Thomas, when it is safe to do so.
Responsibilities include:
- Having a strong commitment to the mandate of the health unit and a willingness to develop an understanding of the services and programs that we provide;
- Engaging in generative thinking and planning;
- Understanding and supporting our mandate and leadership’s ability to implement strategy;
- Understanding the varied communities and populations we serve;
- Continuing self-education, growth, and understanding of public health principles;
- Representing the Board at internal, public, or official functions; and
- Acquiring a clear understanding of the fiscal operations, and ensuring funds are adequate and responsibly spent.
The Board of Health explicitly seeks to ensure appropriate representation of the community it serves. We welcome expressions of interest from representatives of the diverse ethno-cultural communities living in the region.
If you are interested in making an impact in your community by serving on our Board of Health, please submit an expression of interest with your resume and cover letter by Friday October 15, 2021, to Amanda Koning, Executive Assistant, at akoning@swpublichealth.ca.
The Board of Health’s Governance Committee will review submissions and provide a recommendation to the Board of Health who in turn will make a recommendation to the Provincial Appointee Secretariat for consideration.
