Public notice: Use of Pesticides in Elgin County, Oxford County and the City of St. Thomas
Between July 6 and September 30, 2026, Southwestern Public Health may conduct a larviciding program, under the authority of the Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Ninh Tran, if a risk area is identified through mosquito surveillance to control larval mosquitoes and their development into vectors of West Nile Virus.
The biological larvicide Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis [Product Name: VectoBac 200G], Registration No. 18158, and an insect growth regulator [Product Name: Altosid Pellets Mosquito Growth], Registration No. 21809, may be placed in ditches, and temporary or permanent pools, including stormwater retention ponds if evidence of mosquito breeding is found:

If required, larvicide will be applied by Canadian Centre for Mosquito Management, a Ministry of Environment and Climate Change licensed applicator contracted by Southwestern Public Health, the City of St. Thomas, and the Town of Aylmer, the City of Woodstock, Township of Blandford Bleinheim, Township of Norwich, Town of Tillsonburg, Town of Ingersoll, Township of Southwest Oxford, and Township of East-Zorra.
