SWPH investigating a dog bite in Port Burwell on February 27th

Southwestern Public Health is seeking the public’s help to identify a dog involved in a bite incident in Port Burwell.

The incident occurred on Friday, February 27th, at approximately 1:20 PM beside Big Otter Creek.

The dog is described as a small-to-medium-sized, possibly Shih Tzu mixed-breed dog. The dog appeared unkempt, with several dirt or sand spots, and is possibly cream in colour.

The owner is described as a heavy-set male, approximately 5’10”, in his early 60s. He was possibly wearing a black motorcycle jacket. The owner and dog were last seen walking back toward Big Otter Creek, down the hill from the lighthouse on Robinson Street.

Caution: The dog is aggressive and was off-leash with the owner at the time of the incident.

Public Health wants to confirm the vaccination status of the dog to allow the victim and their health care provider to determine next steps related to rabies post-exposure prophylaxis.

If you are the owner of the dog or have information about the incident, please contact Southwestern Public Health at 1-800-922-0096 and ask to speak with a Public Health Inspector.
