SWPH investigating a dog bite in St. Thomas on February 4

Southwestern Public Health is seeking help to identify a dog involved in a bite incident in St. Thomas.

The incident took place on February 4, 2026, between 3:45 to 4:00 PM at PetSmart located at 1055 Talbot St. St Thomas, ON N5P 1G5.  

The victim was petting the dog who was on a leash. The dog is described as a small sized, short hair, male, mixed breed (possibly Chihuahua mix) and mostly black in colour with tan and white markings. The female owner of the dog is described as a person with short brown hair, wearing dark coloured jacket and boots at the time of the incident.

Public Health wants to confirm the vaccination status of the dog to allow the victim and their health care provider to determine next steps related to rabies post-exposure prophylaxis.
