NutriSTEP® stands for “Nutrition Screening Tool for Every Preschooler.”
Preschooler NutriSTEP® is a valid and reliable 17-item nutrition risk screening questionnaire for preschoolers, aged 3 to 5 years.
The main purpose of the nutrition risk screen is to identify children at high nutrition risk early, and to make appropriate referrals to local community and/or health services for primary prevention.
Southwestern Public Health is implementing this program as part of its Healthy Babies Healthy Children program and within kindergarten registration at publicly funded elementary schools in Oxford County, Elgin County and St. Thomas.
Nutri-eSTEP®, an online version of the screen, is an alternate option for caregivers to complete the screen. We invite health care providers to promote this screen to their patients. Posters and bookmarks to advertise the screen are available from Southwestern Public Health. For free copies, contact us at 1-800-922-0096.
Screening data from NutriSTEP ® and Nutri-eSTEP ® will be used for local and provincial surveillance efforts, and identify implications for further research and practice. Learn more about the NutriSTEP® program here.
