Stage 2: Forward-facing car seats

The law requires you to keep your child harnessed in a forward-facing child restraint until he/she reaches 40 lbs. However, it is recommended to keep the child harnessed in a forward-facing child restraint for as long as possible (until they reach the upper weight or height limit of the child safety seat), as this keeps the child much safer than a booster seat.

Every time you move to the next stage, your child has less protection in a crash… Don’t rush it!

Transport Canada provides more information, tips and guidelines on forward-facing car seats.
