Our Role

School Public Health Nurses promote health in Elementary, Secondary, Private, Amish and many Faith based schools in Elgin County.

We promote a healthy school community which in turn improves overall health and learning outcomes for children and youth.

Our Focus

We work to promote a positive school climate where healthy active living is practiced in each school, with each classroom and student. Together, with students, families, and the school community, we are fostering the development of healthy lifestyle habits as the child grows.

With reference to the Foundations for a Healthy School, we focus on these six areas:

  1. Physical Activity
  2. Healthy Eating
  3. Childhood Safety
  4. Growth and Development
  5. Mental Health

  6. Substance Use, Addictions and Related Behaviours

We also work together with our other ESTPH programs to deliver many services including our immunization program for students in schools.
