Southwestern Public Health is seeking the public’s help to identify a dog involved in a bite incident in St. Thomas on May 2nd, 2026, at approximately 12:00am. 

With World Maternal Mental Health Day on May 6, Southwestern Public Health (SWPH) is shining a light on mental health needs in pregnant and postpartum individuals, and the services available to support them. 

With warmer weather comes an increase in tick activity. Southwestern Public Health is reminding residents of simple steps to significantly reduce the risk of tick bites and tick-borne illnesses, such as Lyme Disease. 

In partnership with Southwestern Public Health, the University of Waterloo Climate Institute has released a new policy guide to inform the health impacts of extreme heat, while recognizing not all people are impacted in the same ways.

This Oral Health Month, SWPH is highlighting the importance of oral health and the free and low‑cost dental services available to eligible children, seniors, and adults across Oxford County, Elgin County, and the City of St. Thomas. SWPH provides oral health programs that focus on prevention, early intervention, and education.

Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures as low as -12˚C, feeling like -24˚C with the wind chill, across the Southwestern Public Health region. Cold conditions are expected to begin this evening and continue until the morning of Tuesday, March 17th. Conditions meeting SWPH’s cold alert threshold are also expected overnight on March 17th and into the morning of Wednesday, March 18th.

Environment Canada is forecasting temperatures as low as -18°C and -25°C with the wind chill, in the SWPH region, with cold conditions beginning overnight tonight. Temperatures are expected to warm up on Monday, March 2nd.
