What We Do

Your Healthy School Team works with students, parents, staff, school boards and community agencies to protect and promote healthy schools. We incorporate health into schools through:
  • Social and Physical Environments
  • School Community Engagement
  • Community Partnerships
  • Teaching and Learning
  • School Health in all Policies

Your Healthy Schools Team has a special focus on mental health, substance misuse prevention, and parenting supports but we also cover topics such as: getting ready for kindergarten, clinical supports for students, food in schools, injury prevention and many more!

You can find us both in the classroom engaging with children and youth in health promotion and leadership opportunities and in the community: researching, assessing community needs, developing services and addressing the social determinants of health.

How We Do It

We use the Foundations for a Healthy School, Healthy Schools Alliance and Canadian Healthy School Standards to apply the School Health Guideline under the Ontario Public Health Standards.

We assess the needs of our communities using population data. Our work is regulated by the Immunization of School Pupils Act, Health Promotion and Protection Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, and the Education Act.
