Everyone born in 2009 or earlier is eligible for COVID-19 vaccine.
With the school year approaching and the Delta variant spreading quickly; the Health Unit wants to maximize protection
Following direction from Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Southwestern Public Health has expanded access to COVID-19 vaccines by inviting all children who turn 12 in 2021 for the COVID-19 vaccine. This opportunity is for anyone born in 2009, even if they have not yet celebrated their twelfth birthday. This change is effective immediately.
“As much as we are enjoying this hot weather and our summer activities, the new school year is just around the corner. Our goal is to have as many youth as possible vaccinated before they return indoors. Schools are so important for so many reasons. High vaccination rates will keep them safe and open in 2021-2022,” says Dr. Joyce Lock, Medical Officer of Health.
Starting today, Southwestern Public Health’s mass immunization clinics in Tillsonburg, Woodstock and St. Thomas, as well as its temporary pop-up clinics, all have the Pfizer-branded vaccine for those born in 2009 or earlier. Those with questions or looking to book an appointment may call the Southwestern Public Health COVID-19 Response Centre at 1-800-922-0096 ext. 9.
Clinic attendees are reminded to bring their identification and be well hydrated and enjoy a good-sized meal – including a protein – before arriving at the clinic.
