Southwestern Public Health Invites Community Member 6M + for New Covid-19 Vaccine Formulation
It’s not a Hallowe’en trick! Southwestern Public Heath’s vaccination program has now opened its doors to all community members six months and older seeking the newest formulation of the Covid-19 vaccine, which targets the XBB variant of the virus.
Those seeking vaccination at a Southwestern Public Health clinic are invited to book by calling 1-833-943-3900 or booking online at covid-19.ontario.ca/book-vaccine.
“If you are unable to get a vaccine at your primary care office, or through your pharmacy, please book an appointment online or by phone at either our St. Thomas or our Woodstock location” says Jaime Fletcher, Program Manager of Vaccine Preventable Diseases, and the health unit’s Chief Nursing Officer. “There are fewer clinics than in previous years of the pandemic, but we continue to open up spots and add new dates as staffing and supply allows.”
While all community members are invited to attend, the Health Unit strongly encourages the following community members to be vaccinated due to their high-risk of serious infection:
-
Pregnant people
-
People over the age of 65
-
People who are First Nation, Inuit or Métis and their household members
-
Adults with immune compromising health conditions making them more susceptible to severe illness
-
Health care providers
People must wait an interval of 6 months between their last vaccination or Covid-19 infection and receiving the new vaccine formulation. Southwestern Public Health is not offering the flu vaccine to the public currently.
Clinic times, dates, and locations as well as booking information can be found at www.swpublichealth.ca/covid19.
