Pregnancy Testing and Options
Southwestern Public Health offers confidential pregnancy testing and non-biased information about your pregnancy options.
Pregnancy testing
If you need a pregnancy test, you can visit our Sexual Health Clinic, speak with your health care provider, or buy one from a pharmacy. A pregnancy test is most accurate a few days past after you were expecting your period. The best time to do a test is with your first pee of the day.
Pregnancy options
None of these options is better or worse than the others. You have the right to make the decision that is best for you. If you are pregnant, you have three options:
- Continue your pregnancy and become a parent
- Continue your pregnancy and give the baby up for adoption
- End your pregnancy now and have a therapeutic abortion
What to do if you decide to become a parent
Make an appointment with your health care provider for prenatal care as soon as possible. If you do not have a health care provider, we can refer you to an Obstetrician/Gynaecologist. See our pregnancy and baby supports and learn more about having a healthy pregnancy on our Preconception and Pregnancy page.
What to do if you decide to give the baby up for adoption
We can provide information about adoption services. Please contact a Public Health Nurse. Learn more from the Adoption Council of Ontario.
What to do if you decide to end your pregnancy
Book an appointment with your health care provider or visit a Sexual Health Clinic to speak with a nurse. A nurse at the clinic can refer you to the Pregnancy Options Program/Abortion Clinic at London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) in London or any alternate clinic in the southwest or central region as per client request and clinic availability.
Planned Parenthood provides helpful information if you are considering abortion.
